So I’m just staring out the window, and across the street there’s a California flag flying next to the American flag, and I think to myself “holy shit, Arnold Schwarzenegger is our governor.” [I have these “holy shit” moments from time to time, not that I didn’t know it before, but it particularly struck me at the moment, what with my view of palm trees and the ocean/etc]. I mean, it may seem meaningless, but he influences the policies of the largest economy and most populous state in America. Not to mention the [for better or worse] trend-setter for progressiveness. Only in California. Or Minnesota. Anyhoo.
So I’m wondering, politically, who are the most powerful/significant/influential people in this country?
Obv #1 is the president, even as a lame duck.I don’t think the VP is #2. I think the Speaker, or the Majority/Minority leader, or Ted Kennedy is far more powerful.
Other candidates for this list [can be independent of who currently holds the position, bc of the importance inherent to the office]
-Mayor of New York
-Governor of California
-Attorney General
-Secretary of State
-Governor of Texas
-Governor of New York
-there’s probably various heads of committees, like Appropriations or Defense, but I don’t generally know who they are, and those are tenuous positions
thoughts?
