Ok so this brings up a far more important debate.
Was Raphael “cool but crude” or “cool but rude”? Check the video for yourself. I consider myself fairly well-versed on the Ninja Turtles (I was a Ninja Turtle for Halloween 1988 - 1991 and 2003), but this is an eternal debate that no one short of Eastman and Laird can settle. I’m in the latter (rude) boat, but I know other diehards that are equally adamant to the former case.
Was Raphael uncouth and uncultured? Absolutely. But I think it was more his mark to be a general jackass; the point of contention in my mind comes down to whether or not Raphael’s behavior was intended. I think that Michaelangelo was more the ‘crude’ Ninja Turtle, as he would frequently commit faux pas in social situations. There was never any malice involved, he was merely unrefined. Raphael seemed to always be conscious of his antisocial behavior, and felt no remorse in it. In that sense I feel he was cool but rude. Everyone is wrong but me.
I can never really even decide which was my favorite. I probably liked and wanted to be more like Michaelangelo, but I certainly had a lot of Donatello in me. But you probably could have figured that out.
